How to get your shop on Google Maps in Pali or Jodhpur (free, one afternoon)

Ridam Jain · 2 September 2026 · Pali, Rajasthan

When someone in Pali types "textile wholesaler near me" or "dentist in Jodhpur" into Google, the map with three businesses at the top is the Google Business Profile. It is free, and it brings more local customers than a website does on its own. Most small businesses in Rajasthan either do not have one or have one that a customer created by accident, with the wrong phone number.

Here is how to set it up properly.

Step 1: Claim or create the listing

  1. Search your business name on Google Maps. If it already appears, click it and look for "Own this business?" or "Claim this business".
  2. If it does not appear, go to business.google.com and click "Manage now".
  3. Sign in with a Google account you control. Not an employee's personal account. If that person leaves, you lose the listing.

Step 2: Verify it

Google will ask you to prove the business is real. Depending on the category it offers a video call, a short video of the premises and signboard, a phone call, or a postcard with a code. The video option is fastest. Walk in from the street, show the signboard, the interior, and something with the business name on it like a bill book or a GST certificate.

Step 3: Fill in everything

Empty profiles rank lower. Fill in:

  • Category. Pick the most specific one. "Textile Exporter", not "Shop".
  • Hours, including the day you close.
  • Phone number that someone actually answers. WhatsApp number in the description if it is different.
  • Address and map pin. Drag the pin to the actual entrance. In older market areas the pin often lands two lanes away.
  • Website. If you have one, link it. If you do not, Google gives you a free one-page site, which is better than nothing.
  • Description. Two or three plain sentences: what you sell, who you sell to, since when. Mention the town names you serve.
  • Photos. At least ten. The front of the building, the inside, the products, the team. Phone photos in daylight are fine. Profiles with photos get far more calls.

Step 4: Get reviews, and reply to them

Ask every satisfied customer for a review. Google gives you a short link under "Ask for reviews". Send it on WhatsApp right after the sale. Reply to every review, including the bad ones, briefly and politely. Google notices when an owner is active.

Step 5: Keep it alive

Post once a month. A new product, a festival offer, a photo of a delivery going out. It takes five minutes and it tells Google the business is still open.

Common mistakes I see in Pali and Jodhpur

  • The listing was created by a marketing agency years ago and nobody has the login.
  • Two listings for the same shop, splitting the reviews.
  • A residential address used for a business that customers actually visit somewhere else.
  • No reply to reviews for years.

If you want help setting this up alongside a website, it is part of what I do for local businesses. It is also the first thing I check when someone asks me why their site gets no calls.
